Behind the Business: Bonnie Kosson Knows Why Families Choose Mount Dora. She Made the Same Choice.

After leaving Miami to raise her family in a small-town community, the longtime real estate professional now helps others find their own place in Mount Dora.

Years ago, Bonnie Kosson and her family made a decision that many prospective Central Florida homebuyers are still making today: leave the pace of a major metropolitan area behind and find somewhere that feels more like a small town.

For Bonnie, that meant moving from Miami to Mount Dora, where she and her family could raise their children in a community with a different atmosphere and way of life.

It was a personal decision that would eventually become an important part of her professional identity.

Today, as a Realtor with LPT Realty, Bonnie helps individuals and families navigate the same questions she once faced herself. Where do we want to live? What kind of community are we looking for? And what will make a house truly feel like home?

Her real estate work has extended throughout Mount Dora and surrounding Central Florida communities, including Eustis, Leesburg and DeLand. But Mount Dora holds a particular significance for Bonnie because she knows firsthand what attracts families to the area.

"We moved out of Miami many years ago to raise our children in this lovely small town atmosphere," Bonnie said. "I know how many people want to do the same."

Understanding the People Behind the Purchase

Real estate is often discussed in terms of inventory, prices, interest rates and market conditions. For buyers, however, a home purchase is also a deeply personal decision shaped by family needs, lifestyle preferences, finances and plans for the future.

Bonnie believes that understanding those personal considerations is one of the most important responsibilities of a Realtor.

"Listen to people! Everyone has a story!" she said.

That philosophy shapes the way she works with clients, whether they are relocating to the area, looking for a temporary residence or searching for a home where they hope to settle permanently.

Finding the right property is not always immediate. In some cases, buyers may need time to determine their priorities, explore different neighborhoods or wait for a property that fits their circumstances.

Bonnie considers that patience an essential part of the process. Rather than treating every search as a straightforward transaction, she recognizes that helping someone find the right home often requires understanding where they are in life and what they hope their next chapter will look like.

A Personal Connection to Mount Dora's Appeal

Mount Dora's reputation as a small-town alternative to larger Central Florida cities has long been part of its appeal. Its historic downtown, established neighborhoods, community events and locally owned businesses create an environment that attracts people seeking something different from metropolitan living.

For Bonnie, those qualities are more than selling points. They are the reasons her own family chose to build a life here.

That experience gives her a personal perspective when working with people considering a move to Mount Dora. She understands that prospective residents are not simply comparing properties. Many are weighing broader lifestyle decisions about where to raise children, spend retirement or begin a new phase of life.

Her professional experience also extends beyond Mount Dora, allowing her to work with buyers exploring other communities throughout Lake County and Central Florida.

But the connection between her personal story and professional work remains especially relevant in a community where so many residents arrived after making their own decision to seek a different pace of life.

Why Relationships Matter More Than Ever

Bonnie's emphasis on listening extends beyond her relationships with homebuyers.

As a member of the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce, she sees networking as an important opportunity to meet people, learn about other businesses and become more connected to the community.

"It is always all about networking. Connecting with everyone you meet," she said.

For professionals working in real estate, those relationships can be particularly valuable. Local connections help Realtors remain familiar with the businesses, neighborhoods and people that shape the communities they serve.

Bonnie has recently been making more time for Chamber involvement and hopes to continue strengthening those relationships.

Her approach reflects a broader belief that meaningful professional connections begin with a genuine interest in other people rather than an immediate business opportunity.

How Experience Changes the Meaning of Success

After many years of professional and personal experiences, Bonnie has developed a different appreciation for what makes her work rewarding.

Early in a real estate career, success can be measured through sales, transactions and business growth. With experience, however, the personal impact of helping someone find a home can become just as meaningful.

Bonnie says she understands that fulfillment more deeply today than she did roughly 30 years ago.

"I know now more than I did maybe 30 years ago how very fulfilling helping a family find happiness can be!" she said.

That perspective has been shaped not only by her professional experience but also by personal challenges and losses.

Bonnie speaks openly about making a conscious choice to approach life with optimism, even when circumstances are difficult.

"After many losses and tragedies in my personal life I have made a choice to live my life every day with a smile," she shared. "I truly believe it is a choice!"

It's a philosophy that informs the way she approaches relationships, business and everyday interactions.

Rather than allowing difficult experiences to define her outlook, Bonnie has chosen to focus on the people around her and the opportunities she has to make a positive difference.

Helping the Next Family Find Home

Looking ahead, Bonnie's ambitions are straightforward: continue growing her real estate business, deepen her involvement in the local community and help more families find homes that meet their needs.

Her advice to fellow business owners reflects the same people-first philosophy that runs throughout her career.

"Always find the best in people, no matter who it may be!"

For Bonnie, that belief is especially meaningful in real estate, where every new client arrives with a different story, a different set of priorities and a different reason for searching for a home.

Years after leaving Miami to build a life in Mount Dora, she continues helping others consider what life in this community might look like for them.

And perhaps that's what makes her story especially fitting for Mount Dora: before she helped other families find their place here, she was one of them.
