Mount Dora Educator Launches Alexis Adapts Adventures for Children and Families

New small-group program uses play, movement and parent participation to help children build academic, communication and social-emotional skills
 
MOUNT DORA, Fla. — Alexis Jandreau, a longtime Lake County educator and founder of Alexis Adapts, has launched Alexis Adapts Adventures, a small-group learning experience designed for children who benefit from connection, play, movement, flexibility and hands-on instruction.
 
The program is open to both neurodivergent and neurotypical children. It builds on the idea that many of the strategies used to help neurodivergent children thrive—including individualized instruction, movement, meaningful relationships and flexible learning—can benefit children with a wide range of strengths, needs and learning styles.
 
“After listening to so many families, I realized there was a need for a learning experience that could meet children where they are while also giving parents practical ways to support that growth at home,” Jandreau said. “Alexis Adapts Adventures is a place where children can feel seen, supported and challenged without being expected to learn in exactly the same way as everyone else.”
 
Classes are limited to 10 families, allowing Jandreau to provide individualized support while creating opportunities for children and parents to develop friendships and a sense of community.
 
Lessons incorporate music, movement, stories, games and hands-on activities. Each session is intentionally designed to support academic development, communication, social-emotional learning, executive functioning and school-readiness skills.
 
Parents participate alongside their children and receive strategies they can continue using outside of class. The goal is not only to help children grow during each lesson, but also to strengthen communication, confidence and connection throughout the family.
 
“This is not about watering down academics,” Jandreau said. “It is about teaching smarter and recognizing that children are more likely to learn when they feel safe, connected and engaged.”
